Following are the Named Education Scholarships that are fully funded by the Alabama CCIM Chapter to
honor individuals for their outstanding service to their CCIM chapter, the commercial
real estate industry, and their communities.

Timothy S. Blair Scholarship
Established – 04/18/2023 Timothy S. Blair lead Shannon Waltchack’s second commercial real estate capital preservation fund, SW Neighborhood Centers, which is focused on purchasing neighborhood centers in affluent communities with necessity-based service tenants. A veteran real estate professional, he has been in the real estate industry for more than 25 years and a principal at Shannon Waltchack since 2010.
He currently serves on CCIM lnstitute’s national board of directors and was the CCIM lnstitute’s 2021 Global President. In addition, Blair was the 2017 National Association of Realtors Commercial Advocate of the Year and is also a Life Member of the Birmingham Association of Realtors' Commercial Million Dollar Sales Club. Tim served as the local CCIM Chapter President in 2013, the year that the chapter won 1st Place Chapter of the Year, Tier 1. Blair received his bachelor’s degree from Colorado College and his MBA from University of Virginia's Darden School of Business.Blair is actively involved in multiple local non-profits, currently serving as Chairman of the Board for the Birmingham Metro YMCA Association. C. William Barnhill CCIM Scholarship
Established – 02/26/2013 Bill Barnhill, CCIM, PhD., of Mobile, Alabama, has been involved in commercial real estate business for over 36 years and received the CCIM designation in 1981. Bill is a past president of the Alabama CCIM Chapter and was instrumental in starting the chapter’s Gulf Coast District. He is also a past president of the Alabama Real Estate Securities and Syndication Institute. Bill is currently President of Omega Properties, Inc., a commercial real estate management and brokerage firm. Tom Crawford Scholarship
Established – 03/27/2014 Tom Crawford of Birmingham, Alabama, is Chairman of The Title Group Incorporated, which he founded in 1984. He was one of the founding board members of the CCIM Alabama Chapter, and has been an active member and supporter for over 30 years. Chad Thomas Hagwood Scholarship
Established – 12/04/2014 Chad Thomas Hagwood of Birmingham, Alabama, is Senior Vice President of Originations for Capital One Multifamily Finance. Over the course of his career, he has closed in excess of $5.7 billion in commercial real estate transactions and is consistently ranked as one of the industry’s leading loan originators. Chad has been an active member and supporter for many years of the Alabama CCIM Chapter, and currently serves on the Board of Directors. John Lauriello CCIM Scholarship
Established – 12/17/2013 John Lauriello, CCIM, of Birmingham, Alabama, is Principal of Southpace Properties, a company he co-founded in 1984 and now the largest independent commercial real estate firm in the state. He was one of the founding board members of the CCIM Alabama Chapter and has been active with commercial real estate in metro Birmingham since 1978, achieving more than $400,000,000 of leasing and sales activity and $250,000,000 of development activity. Troy McClendon CCIM Scholarship
Established – 01/08/2009 Troy McClendon, CCIM, of Millbrook, Alabama, was the founder of a successful self storage business and served as a member of the Army National Guard. He was a founding board member and President of the Alabama CCIM Chapter, and also a CCIM instructor for over 30 years. Troy passed away in 2013 at 72 years of age. Bill Moss CCIM Scholarship
Established – 11/06/2008 Bill Moss, CCIM, of Birmingham, Alabama, is Associate Broker of Southpace Properties. He is a founding board member and past president of the Alabama CCIM Chapter, and has been a CCIM instructor for over 30 years. Bill is also a past president of the Greater Birmingham Association of Homebuilders. J. Cotten Volman CCIM Scholarship
Established – 10/24/2013 Cotten Volman, CCIM, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, was a board member of the Alabama CCIM Chapter. Cotton graduated from the University of Alabama in 1994, being awarded a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance with a concentration in real estate. He passed away in 2013 at 40 years of age leaving behind his wife and two young daughters. At the time of his passing, Cotton was a mortgage banking executive with Capital Advisors in Birmingham. Charlie White CCIM Scholarship
Established – 08/01/2005 Charlie White of Birmingham, Alabama, is a Partner with MCW Development. He has been a CCIM instructor for almost 20 years, and is one of the founding members and a past president of the Alabama CCIM Chapter.
